We’ve been on a cruise ship twice for Easter . The first time we scheduled this trip we did not realize that we were going on the holiday and when I realize I expected a bigger Easter celebration onboard the ship, but it did not meet my expectations. When we sailed in April 2023 on Explorer of the Seas they didn’t have much …they had chocolate at the buffet and maybe one or two activities that was Easter themed like trivial but do not remember something worth while.
The Easter bunny did visit our house the week prior, but the holiday just wasn’t the same. So next year, when we decided to do Easter on Icon of the Seas, I made sure to plan better. I packed Easter basket , where I made sure that I didn’t put too much candy in the basket because we were on a cruise. The Easter bunny only gave the “ bunny farts “ candy. I also was very generous and the Easter bunny gifted a new switch game (much needed for the airport wait time) and some books.
One of the books was on the Mayan pyramids to go with the theme of the shore excursion we were doing in Costa Maya . We also bought a whole bunch of Easter eggs with rubber ducks inside since my child loves finding and hiding ducks on a cruise ship. Side bar, he enjoys duck hunting so much that he is now refusing to go on a Disney cruise ship because they have since banned ducks but that’s another discussion for another time. The Easter bunny left a note saying that he can keep some of the Easter plastic ducks, but must hide the remaining in Central Park or Surfside that day.
Onboard Icon on the Seas, we had an infinite balcony, so we were able to pull the curtains and set up the Easter basket while he was sleeping and decorate that area of the room. We also hid the Easter plastic ducks around our cabin. He woke up and was so excited. It was nice to see, since he was 7 and probably one of the last Easters where he believes.
But to be honest, he was more excited about hiding the Easter eggs in Central Park and watching the joy and happiness of other families and little kids when he would look back and they found the egg with the duck. There are times when we had to pause the hidden of the ducks because there was other families going around, picking up our Easter eggs, and he wanted to spread the joy so we walked around the ship and lost those families and remained the Easter egg hiding . Regarding an icon on the seas, they did have more activities. They actually had the Easter bunny, but no Easter egg hunt. And to be honest, hiding the Easter eggs was one of our favorite part of the cruise. April 2024 was a successful Easter.
